Direct answer

What does occupational safety do with AI video analytics?

AI video analytics continuously monitors defined workspaces for visible security features and dangerous situations. For example, it recognises missing PPE, people on the ground or entering critical zones. In this way, security staff receive concrete events instead of additional video images and can check more quickly whether action is needed.

Occupational safety: What does the video analytics recognise?

Several specialised analyses provide events and measurements. Their suitability is checked with real camera scenes, clear quality criteria and operational edge cases.

Abstract Visualization: PPE Recognition.

PPE Detection

Detect visible personal protective equipment such as safety helmet, safety vest or defined protective clothing. You can define your own PPE rules for different areas of work.

Abstract visualization: person on the ground.

Person down

Fall-typical movements or people recognise that are unusually long on the ground, so that possible work accidents or medical emergencies become visible more quickly.

Danger zones

Detect people or vehicles within defined safety areas, for example when entering a closed area during machine operation.

Attached detection

Check whether defined visible connections are present, such as a safety line attached to a person or the intended hose connected to a system.

Typical operational situations

Support occupational safety where risks become visible.

AI video analytics is particularly suitable for working environments in which safety rules apply continuously and dangerous situations are to be identified as early as possible.

Production and machinery

Continuous monitoring in production halls and on machines PPE, safety zones, work areas and possible emergency situations.

Construction sites

Visual check the safety helmet, warning vest and defined hazardous areas in changing construction site situations. The configuration is regularly adapted to changed work areas and camera perspectives.

Logistics and Warehousing

Detect critical zones, movements and visible safety violations early in areas shared by forklifts, vehicles and people.

Maintenance and technical equipment

When working on machines or technical plants, monitor defined safety states and visible object connections.

Sole work

Use person-down and fall detection to identify potential emergencies faster in areas where employees sometimes work alone.

Technological implementation

Combine continuous safety analytics with targeted image inspections.

SynaEYE and Vaidio are used in particular for continuous safety analyses. SynaHUB supplements these platforms when individual images are to be specifically checked with VLMs for a defined safety condition.

Operational video analytics

Continuous AI video analytics for live camera streams

SynaEYE continuously analyses existing cameras in real time and combines detection, event logic, alerts, tracking and forensics in a European edge AI platform.

The right choice if you:want to monitor security, safety or operational processes continuously with your cameras and process detected events immediately.

Responsibility and limits

Occupational safety needs context, visibility and human responsibility.

AI video analytics can detect visible security features and dangerous situations. However, it does not automatically know the complete work context and does not replace any organisational occupational safety measures.

Field of view and image qualityThe system can only detect what is sufficiently visible in the camera image. Covered protective equipment, very small details or events outside the camera image cannot be reliably evaluated.
Work context and exceptionsMaintenance, cleaning, special working procedures or temporarily changed areas can represent regular exceptions and must therefore be taken into account in the rules.
Event instead of blameA recognised deviation initially only means that the visible situation does not correspond to the defined rules. The system automatically determines neither culpable behaviour nor an actual risk.
Occupational safety remains responsibilityAI video analytics supports occupational safety, but does not replace any risk assessment, instruction, technical protection measures, supervision or organisational responsibility.
Privacy by Design

For PPE, zone or fall detection, the system does not necessarily determine who is a person. The focus is on security features and concrete situations. The analysis is limited to the areas and information required for the respective occupational safety purpose.

  • No identity determination required for pure safety analysis
  • No automatic attribution of responsibility in the event of a detected deviation
  • Limiting analysis to required areas of work and hazard
  • Clear and comprehensible safety rules
  • Authorised access to event and image data
  • Defined storage and retention periods
  • No automated labour law sanctions solely due to an AI meeting
  • human review for relevant consequences

Assess data protection requirements for your specific use case. For EU locations, refer to the GDPR and the EDPB guidelines on video surveillance. Also consider the requirements of the EU AI Act, where applicable to your use case.

Frequently asked questions

Occupational Safety explained in brief.

What does AI video analytics for occupational safety recognise?

Depending on the configuration, the system detects missing visible PPE, people on the ground, stays in danger zones and defined visible object connections. The functions are combined to suit the risk assessment and real work processes.

Can existing cameras be reused?

In many cases yes. Perspective, resolution, lighting, occlusions and camera coverage are checked with real workflows, typical exceptions and relevant edge cases.

Which platforms are suitable for occupational safety?

SynaEYE and Vaidio adopt continuous safety analyses. SynaHUB can also use Vision Language Models to check individual images on freely formulated security or target-actual questions.

Does the AI automatically decide via a security violence?

No. A detection initially shows a visible deviation from a defined rule. Responsible staff assess the work context, authorisation, actual hazard and possible consequences.

Does AI video analytics require hazard assessment and protective measures?

No. The analysis supports early detection, but does not replace any risk assessment and instruction, nor technical protection measures, supervision or organisational responsibility.

How will data protection be taken into account?

For pure PPE, zone or fall detection, no identity determination is required. Purposes, areas, event rules, roles, access, storage, retention periods and the human review of relevant consequences are determined before operation.
