Starting today, the AI Weapon Detector is available, the first AI Security as a Service subscription from Synaedge. The cloud-based AI video analytics detects visible gun and knife weapons via existing surveillance cameras and automatically alerts a certified 24/7 alarm center in an emergency, which verifies the incident and notifies the police if the threat is confirmed. No one has to press a button.
Why we built it.
A drawn weapon changes everything in seconds. If you have ever been standing at a checkout when a situation turns sour, you know: At that moment, there is no checklist you can work through. There is only the reflex to somehow get out of the situation unharmed. Police authorities clearly advise against intervening or putting yourself in danger in such situations.. Your own safety takes priority over everything else. That is right and life-saving. But it creates a dilemma that is rarely discussed: If nobody is allowed to respond, then nobody can call for help. This is exactly where the AI Weapon Detector comes in.
The problem is not the technology. It is access.
KI video analysis that detects firearms in real time is not a thing of the future. This technology exists, it works, and it is being used. It is just used where budgets are in a whole different league: in airports, in government agencies, and in large corporations with their own IT department and a dedicated security budget.
The kiosk on the corner, the gas station on the bypass road, the pharmacy in the residential district, the late-night shop, the bar, the club. They all carry an increased risk, often even higher than some large organizations. And they have all, until now, been excluded from this technology. Not because they didn’t need it, but because the infrastructure behind it was too complex and too expensive.
We think that is wrong. Security should not depend on how many locations a business has or how large its IT department is.
How the AI Weapon Detector works
We deliberately refer here to AI Security as a Service, and not just to AI analysis. The difference becomes clear in what happens after detection: a connected security control room, human verification, and a clearly defined escalation process up to the police.However sophisticated this security chain works in the background, the AI Weapon Detector itself remains simple to operate.
Most businesses already have surveillance cameras. These continue to monitor the location as usual. What’s new is an intelligent analysis layer that sits on top of the existing infrastructure.
A pre-configured Plug-and-Play gateway connects the existing camera network securely with our Swiss cloud infrastructure. There, a highly precise AI video analytics system analyzes the video streams in real time for visible shooting and stabbing weapons. If the system detects a potential threat, it automatically alerts a certified 24/7 alarm center according to EN 50518. Trained specialists verify the incident and, in an emergency, contact the police.
For operation, no own servers or internal AI or IT specialists are required. During onboarding, we review the existing camera infrastructure and configure the gateway to match the respective site. After that, it only needs to be connected.
The real difference lies in the head
A lot can be said about the technology. But what matters is not the detection rate or the latency. What matters is what happens in the mind of the person who suddenly faces a weapon.
Until now, the unspoken expectation has been: React correctly. Press the button discreetly. Remember the face. Behave wisely. That is an enormous burden at a moment when the nervous system is switched to pure survival.
The AI Weapon Detector takes this burden away. The alerting runs automatically in the background, without anyone needing to take action. No button, no call, still police. If you are attacked, you can focus on what really counts: stay calm, protect yourself, save lives.
Responsibility demands clear boundaries
A system that can trigger a police operation carries responsibility. We take this responsibility seriously, and that is especially evident in what the AI Weapon Detector deliberately does not do.
There is no facial recognition. The AI recognizes only objects, never people. No identities are stored, no behavior is analyzed, no movement patterns are created. No one watches the staff while they work, because in the event of an alarm the control center receives exclusively event-related alarm images, not permanent live access to the cameras., not live access to the cameras. If no weapon is detected, nothing is stored.
And no alarm automatically triggers a police operation. Every report is first verified by trained personnel. The entire analysis runs in a DSGVO-compliant manner in the Tier III nLighten data center in Zurich, independent of US hyperscalers and without third-country access.
For every business with a checkout area
Whether one location or many, whether with existing cameras or completely without, the AI Weapon Detector adapts to the specific situation. Existing compatible IP cameras can continue to be used. If you want a separate camera exclusively for weapon detection, you choose between certified models from Axis, Hanwha and Geutebrück. And multi-branch businesses receive a centrally managed system with a consistent level of protection across all locations.
The AI Weapon Detector is available from now on as a monthly cloud subscription, starting at 129 euros or 129 CHF per month, with each additional camera from 89, each excluding VAT. The preconfigured gateway is added once for 490 euros or 490 CHF. In Germany, Austria and Switzerland at the same price, because fair terms should not end at the border.
When seconds decide, help should not depend on whether someone can still press a button.
