Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
about Vaidio

General information

Vaidio is a modular AI platform for video analysis that runs on standard servers with Intel CPUs and NVIDIA GPUs. It combines powerful video surveillance with AI-powered event detection, object recognition, behavior analysis, and search. The platform works with both real-time cameras and stored or forensic videos and can be operated locally, cloud-based, or hybrid.

Vaidio was founded in 2009 from the vision of a group of researchers and entrepreneurs at the Cloud Computing Center of the ITRI (Industrial Technology Research Institute), which was led by Paul Sun at the time. Since then, Vaidio has been continuously developed.

Synaedge offers Vaidio in three deployment models:

  • Cloud-based AI video analysis by subscription: analysis in the Synaedge Cloud (data centers in Switzerland, Spain, or Germany), storage locally or in the cloud, including managed services.
  • Edge-based analysis on subscription: Local appliance with licenses on subscription, including managed services.
  • Purchase option: You acquire the appliance and licenses and manage the infrastructure yourself. Optionally with a maintenance contract.

Compatibility & Integration

Vaidio works with almost all ONVIF-compliant IP cameras and can seamlessly integrate with existing video infrastructures.

Vaidio offers tiered integrations:

  • Level 1: Alarm forwarding (e.g., Immix)
  • Level 2: Video retrieval (e.g., Mobotix, Uniview, NUUO, QNAP, Hanwha NVR, Digiever, etc.)
  • Level 3: Alarm + Video (e.g., Axis ACS, Bosch, Pelco, Avigilon, Ganz, Qognify)
  • Level 4: Vaidio as a tab in the VMS including search (e.g., Milestone, Genetec, Salient)
  • Level 5: Full integration including object search (e.g., Geutebrück, Wisenet Wave, Network Optix, Mirasys)

Vaidio offers open REST APIs for integration with ERP, HRM, and other systems. Typical use cases:

  • Integration into access control or time tracking systems
  • Automated event transmission to ERP
  • Data transfer to security control rooms or ticketing systems

Features & Technology

Vaidio can search, analyze, and trigger alarms on live cameras and video streams, as well as stored, historical, and forensic videos from almost any video source.

Vaidio has more than 30 specialized AI analysis engines and recognizes over 130 different features and behavior patterns — for clarity in communication, we refer to more than 99 AI analyses. This groups the many individual AI functions thematically and makes the range of capabilities clear and understandable for interested parties.

Vaidio uses so-called Agentic AI technology. These semantically working “Platform Agents” provide real-time answers and automatically respond to defined events. Thanks to automated camera setup, installations can be up to 90% faster.

Vaidio dynamically combines different AI technologies (proprietary models, LLMs, VLMs, CLIP technology) depending on the situation. The platform automatically decides which analysis engine to use – for maximum scalability and efficiency.

Through specialized analysis engines, motion filtering before object recognition, discarded irrelevant frames, and customizable alarm thresholds, Vaidio is particularly accurate and robust against false alarms.

Resource-intensive analysis models are only activated when needed. Standard analyses run on resource-efficient models. This reduces hardware requirements and lowers long-term operating costs.

Yes, Vaidio offers an app for iOS and Android.

Deployment

Yes. In Vaidio, the pixelation of people and faces can only be turned on or off by authorized users to comply with GDPR requirements. Administrators can set permission levels and an unlimited number of user groups, with individual access rights for each camera, analysis engine, and de-pixelation function to protect privacy. Additionally, metadata and retention periods can be configured within Vaidio to comply with data protection and retention regulations. Vaidio itself does not store any personal data – neither independently nor through its users. The collection and processing of personal data is carried out solely by the user/customer, on their own infrastructure (one or more servers with Vaidio components), according to their own settings and policies.

Files directly uploaded to the Vaidio VSA can be easily removed using the delete function. For metadata generated from analyzed video streams, new metadata automatically overwrites older data as part of a rolling storage system. For example, metadata stored on day 8 will overwrite the data from day 1 when a 7-day storage interval is configured.

No. Vaidio does not alter or encrypt video data. After analyzing real-time or stored video streams, the platform only stores the associated metadata. The original video remains on the source storage (e.g., USB, hard drive, NVR, VMS…), and encryption depends on the respective device or storage system.

2-4 CIF at 15 FPS is not recommended for satisfactory results, as the image resolution is simply too low for effective video analysis.
